Senior Electrical Engineer – BESS
OpenMind Staffing is partnering with a growing renewable-energy engineering firm seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design and execution of utility-scale battery energy storage projects. This position can be performed remotely from within the United States.
The Senior Electrical Engineer will serve as a technical lead from conceptual design through construction and commissioning, overseeing electrical design, power-system studies, technical deliverables, and multidisciplinary coordination.
Responsibilities
Lead electrical engineering for utility-scale BESS projects
Design and review medium-voltage collection systems, AC and DC systems, PCS equipment, auxiliary systems, and protection and controls
Review and stamp electrical design packages
Oversee load-flow, short-circuit, grounding, arc-flash, ampacity, and protection-coordination studies
Review calculations, drawings, specifications, equipment submittals, and technical reports
Coordinate with clients, utilities, EPC contractors, vendors, and internal engineering teams
Manage engineering scope, schedules, budgets, and project resources
Provide QA/QC oversight and mentor engineers and designers
Support procurement, construction, commissioning, and technical troubleshooting
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
Active Professional Engineer license in the United States
At least 8 years of BESS, renewable-energy, utility, or power-systems engineering experience
Experience leading the design of utility-scale BESS projects
Knowledge of battery systems, PCS equipment, EMS, BMS, SCADA, switchgear, transformers, and protection systems
Experience with ETAP, CYME, SKM, EasyPower, PSCAD, or similar software
Familiarity with NEC, NESC, NFPA, IEEE, and utility interconnection requirements
Strong leadership, project-management, and client-facing skills
Willingness to travel occasionally within the United States
